Allemand Thunder Force 5 ist ein Side-Scrolling-Shooter-Videospiel. Die Geschichte von Thunder Force V entführt den Spieler aus dem Konflikt zwischen der Galaktischen Föderation und dem ORN-Imperium, wie er in früheren Spielen erläutert wurde, und bringt uns in die Zukunft auf die Erde. Ganz am Ende von Thunder Force IV mussten die Piloten des Kanonenschiffs LEO-04 „Rynex“ aufgrund einer massiven Explosion, die durch die Zerstörung ihres letzten Ziels, der Festung von Vios, verursacht wurde, aus ihrem Schiff aussteigen.
