Allemand Nachdem Goemon und Ebisumaru in ihrer Heimatstadt merkwürdige Beobachtungen gemacht haben, unter anderem eine Geisterfrau die Nachts im lokalen Tempel aufgetaucht ist, beschließen die Beiden diese Ereignisse zu untersuchen.

Nachdem sie die Geisterfrau besiegt haben, stellt sie sich selbst als Kurobei, eine Ninja-Katze vor. Sie erklärt das sie auf der Suche nach starken Leuten sei um ihr zu helfen und bietet dem Duo Geld an ihren Boss, Koban auf der Shikoku Insel aufzusuchen.

Bei ihrer Ankunft sehen sie während eines Festivals Hyotoko-Tänzer in der Stadt, welche den Dorfbewohnern etwas merkwürdig vorkommen. Nachdem sie den Laternenmann, Anführer der bösen Tänzer, gefunden und besiegt haben, befreien sie Koban.

Er informiert sie das Prinzessin Yuki, Tochter des Kaisers von einer seltsamen Gruppe aus Pantomimen und Clowns, auch bekannt als die Otafu-Armee, gekidnappt wurde.

Anglais Goemon (Kid Ying) and Ebisu-Maru (Dr. Yang) are enjoying themselves at home, when they hear about strange spirits sighted at the temple and taking control of the other villagers. Concerned, that a new evil has appeared, the two set out to confront it at the temple. This is just the beginning of a new adventure that will take them Goemon and his partner all across Japan; into moutain villages, amusement parks, castle fortresses and more!

Players control either Goemon or his partner Ebisu-Maru (or both, in 2 player mode). They sequentially travel through adventure-type villages and side-scrolling jump and run action stages. In the overhead-view villages, enemies must be defeated in order to earn money and other items (which include a weapon-enhancing lucky cat and mystical scrolls). The player is able to attack with their primary weapon and jump. Throwing weapons can also be used, which consume money for each one thrown. Attacking innocent villagers will cause the player to lose money. Money can also be gained (or lost) by visiting one of the numerous mini games, often in houses: which include mazes, whack-a-mole, the lottery, dice, a 3D labyrinth and a game trivia quiz show. Other businesses such as shops, resturants, inns and judo training can also be visited.

At the end of each village is an "action area" which changes the game in a complete side-scroller. One or both players can enter this place, filled with obstacles, traps, enemies and a boss creature. In addition to the regular moves used in town, players also gain the ability to unleash one of four special attacks for each character (if bought beforehand at the judo training center). These consume the scrolls collected in order to use. Additionally, in a 2 player game, characters can ride piggy-back on one another, to avoid getting stuck by a scrolling screen.

Français Ce jeu est le premier de la série Ganbare Goemon a être sorti en Occident et , hélas, le seul traduit officiellement en anglais hormis les jeux sortis sur N64. À noter que certaines scènes de l'original ont été censurées pour l'Occident.

Dans ce jeu, jouable à 2 en coopération, on dirige Goemon (rebaptisé Kid Ying) et son acolyte Ebisumaru (Dr. Yang) qui doivent partir sauver une princesse capturée par des méchants dans des niveaux alternant des phases action-RPG à la Zelda - a Link to the Past et des phases de plateforme. En chemin ils pourront faire du shopping pour améliorer leur équipement, jouer à des mini-jeux et se détendre au sauna ou dans des auberges.

Petite astuce : le joueur peut monter sur le dos de l'autre joueur et se faire porter. On peut aussi jouer les "macs" en relevant les compteurs des jeunes filles dans la rue qui donneront leur recette du jour. Enfin ça, c'est ma façon de voir le fait que toucher une jeune fille rapporte de l'argent.

Per questo compito, Ying sarà assistito dal Dr. Yang. In questa avventura i due personaggi viaggeranno attraverso le varie regioni del Giappone. The Legend of the Mystical Ninja è un gioco d'azione con un filone RPG incorporato. Il gioco è diviso in due parti, dove in una navigheremo per la città e in un'altra avremo un'altra azione al genere a scorrimento laterale. Durante la nostra permanenza nelle varie città, possiamo navigarle a piacimento, battere i pedoni per soldi e attrezzare i personaggi nei negozi. Nel side-scroller elimineremo i nemici che appaiono di fronte a noi e di conseguenza elimineremo i boss

Portugais A história deste jogo é bastante simples. O personagem principal de nome Kid Ying terá que resolver algumas estranhas ocorrências que vão acontecendo durante o jogo e que começam por atingir a pacata cidade de Oedo. Para esta tarefa, Ying será auxiliado por Dr. Yang. Nesta aventura os dois personagens irão percorrer as várias regiões do Japão. The Legend of the Mystical Ninja é um jogo de ação com uma vertente RPG inserida. O jogo encontra-se dividido em duas partes, onde numa iremos navegar pela cidade e noutra teremos mais uma ação ao gênero side-scrolling. Durante a nossa estadia nas várias cidades, podemos navegá-las à vontade, bater em pedestres por dinheiro e equipar as personagens em lojas. Na vertente side-scroller iremos eliminar os inimigos que nos aparecem à frente e consequentemente eliminar os chefões.
