Anglais The object of the game is to bring the rest of the world under the player's control. There are twelve playable armies, but at the start of the game, only Yggdra and Milanor may be selected. The other ten armies must be unlocked by fulfilling two to four conditions during a playthrough; what an army's conditions are can be viewed from the selection screen, with fulfilled conditions appearing in red. Much like other Sting games, the phases of Yggdra Unison are called "turns"; "turns" are split up into three parts—preparation, combat, and treasure hunting

Espagnol El objetivo del juego es poner el resto del mundo bajo el control del jugador. Hay doce ejércitos jugables, pero al comienzo del juego, sólo se pueden seleccionar Yggdra y Milanor. Français Yggdra Unison commence en l'an 1490 MD, avec l'empereur Gulcasa - le dirigeant du Nouvel Empire Bronquien - et sa vaste armée attaquant et capturant le fort Karona, qui se trouve à la frontière entre sa propre nation et celle du royaume de Fantasinia, le pays perçue comme la plus grande puissance mondiale. La défaite de Fantasinia et la mort de son roi choquent le monde, mais contrairement aux événements d'Yggdra Union, ce choc pousse toutes les grandes puissances mondiales à se lancer dans une tentative de conquérir le monde continental.
Le joueur sélectionne l'une de ces nations et leur scénario se déroule à mesure qu'ils conquièrent d'autres territoires, aboutissant finalement à leur domination mondiale. En raison du gameplay de style bac à sable, le jeu se concentre davantage sur l'interaction des personnages et le gameplay lui-même qu'une intrigue linéaire; il y a douze scénarios, chacun suivant l'un des douze personnages jouables
