Allemand Reach for the Stars ist ein „Spaceploitation“-Spiel. Der Spieler hat die Möglichkeit, seiner Zivilisation und denen seiner (bis zu drei) KI-Gegner einen Namen zu geben, bevor er seinen Versuch der galaktischen Beherrschung beginnt. Die zweidimensionale Galaxiekarte ist nur durch Planeten und ihre Namen in einigen verschiedenen Farben gekennzeichnet. Außerdem gibt es keine Diplomatie und keine Spielerkontrolle über taktische Kämpfe. Was bleibt, ist ein Hardcore-Spiel mit großer strategischer und wirtschaftlicher Produktion. Der Spieler muss seine Planeten optimieren, Schiffe bauen, neue Technologiestufen erforschen und Flotten einsetzen. Alle zugrunde liegenden Dynamiken können vom Spieler geändert und angepasst werden.

Anglais Reach for the Stars is a "spaceploitation" game. The player has the opportunity to name his civilization and those of his (up to three) AI opponents before he begins his attempt at galactic domination. The 2D galaxy map is marked only by planets and their names in few different colors. Also, there is no diplomacy and no player control over tactical combat. What remains is a hard-core game of grand strategic and economic production. The player must tweak his planets, build ships, research new tech levels, and deploy fleets. All of the underlying dynamics can be altered and customized by the player.

Français Reach for the Stars est un jeu de « spaceploitation ». Le joueur a la possibilité de nommer sa civilisation et celles de ses adversaires IA (jusqu'à trois) avant de commencer sa tentative de domination galactique. La carte 2D de la galaxie est marquée uniquement par les planètes et leurs noms dans quelques couleurs différentes. De plus, il n'y a pas de diplomatie et aucun contrôle du joueur sur le combat tactique. Ce qui reste est un jeu hardcore de grande production stratégique et économique. Le joueur doit modifier ses planètes, construire des vaisseaux, rechercher de nouveaux niveaux technologiques et déployer des flottes. Toutes les dynamiques sous-jacentes peuvent être modifiées et personnalisées par le joueur.
